Negative Publicity Warning

Stay alert to growing themes in the mainstream and trade press that tries to equate any WOM marketing with consumer exploitation. We have been tracking a weekly rise in the number of stories along these lines and are working quickly to respond with the positive story.

Even more dangerous, we are tracking publicity-hungry extremist groups who are attempting to position WOM as exploitation of children -- even for marketers and agencies that aren't involved in any kid-related markets.

WOMMA the strongest voice you have to protect your reputation. Your association is here to help the media understand how WOM works and to educate the press and public on the ethical guidelines that we all believe in. Just as important, all WOMMA members work together to protect consumers by educating new entrants to the business on how to behave ethically.

Next time you see a story that paints your industry in a negative light -- call us -- and remember that we need your support to continue to promote the good work that you do. You don't want to be hanging out there alone in this jittery environment.
