Using WOM to Help Recruit Volunteers
Faced with a need to recruit more volunteers to participate in clinical drug trials, the medical research community are turning to word of mouth to help aid their efforts. Indiana University researchers, for instance, reached out to influencers like local clergy and minority-owned media to help spread the word when they needed to find volunteers from a specific regional community. Others are engaging doctors and other medical personnel directly and providing materials that help them spread the word about open trial opportunities.
The hope is that by using WOM to help increase the pool of volunteers, life-saving drugs will reach the public more quickly.
