I noticed that Plaxo initiated the Plaxo Pulse providing updates of happenings and moves within your network.
I agree it will be a great tool. The hardest will be changing their brand of being "spam like". LinkedIn makes sure to protect their members of that and it shows. They're not where they need to be on that and they are miles ahead of Plaxo. If Plaxo can mount efforts towards exuding the strengths of their brand, they'll hava a great shot.
