Hi Giles,
Thanks for the feedback. As a co-chair on this council I can assure you that we discussed many of the points you've raised - bloggers vs. journalist standards, agency & brand roles as it relates to disclosure, etc.
The bottom line is that as an association we are setting guidelines for our members to follow. Whether you think we're treating bloggers "more fairly" than journalists (I'm sure the Wall Street Journal and others might have a different opinion on this) isn't the question - it's that we're setting standards for agencies and brands to work with bloggers.
Additionally, the role of the Association isn't to determine how bloggers work but how we work with them. And for those of us who are blogging (shout out to davidbinkowski.com), I'd hate to have an association telling me the rules of my venue.
