This is the second annual report of the Most Inspiring Companies™ research. In August of 2011, the Global Institute for Inspiration (GII) surveyed consumers in both the U.S. and UK to better understand not only who the most inspiring companies and brands are, but what makes them so, and what difference it makes to business.
It was not long ago that the Balanced Scorecard changed the way businesses strategically focused on objectives and measures that drove short and long-term performance. That was a major step in management theory and practice. And now we have a case for adding ‘inspiration’ as a new metric.
From a business perspective this might sound like a lot of fluff but when respondents in our survey were asked if they could name an inspiring company or brand, 58% answered in the affirmative. But, the survey did not stop there. It went on to ask, “What company comes to mind as the most inspiring and why?” Over 400 brands surfaced as ‘inspiring’ by consumers. GII selected the ‘Top 25′ for both U.S. and UK respondents, respectively. The reasons they are inspiring are quite revealing along with a few surprises.
