The Associate Public Relations Manager supports internal and external public relations programs for the Mars Snackfood brands. This associate works directly for the Vice President of Communications, while working in collaboration with the Internal and External Communications team, public relations, respective brands and Personnel & Organization (HR) teams.
Key Responsibilities:
External Communication:
- Conduct PR plan research and measurement evaluation for Brands
- Manage PR activities including writing press materials, planning and organization skills, as well as executing events, conferences and b-roll and video shoots
- Channel media requests or inquiries while understanding the needs of media
- Liaise with PR agency counterparts
- Coordinate/merchandise product news clips to appropriate internal parties
- Establish and maintain a close working relationship with brand teams, fully understanding the brand framework and history, and short and long term brand strategies
Internal Communication:
- Manage Snackfood intranet site including design, content management and real-time news writings and postings
- Assist with the development of regular contributions to Mars Snackfood periodic newsletter, town halls and leadership meetings as well as planning for roll-out of associate initiatives
- Support associate promotional activities such as NASCAR, Mars Snackfood
- Ambassador program and Mars reward/recognition program
- Assist with the coordination and logistics management for special events and community outreach programs
- Support ongoing branding initiatives including collateral development, i.e., brochures, video
Key Skills Required:
- Proficiency in writing press materials and pitching media
- Understanding of the needs of mainstream and non-mainstream media outlets
- Public speaking skills
- Proficient in Powerpoint, Word, Lotus Notes and Excel
- Proficient informing skills - timing quantity and quality of communication
- Action Oriented -- Results driven
- Business Acumen - understanding of Mars' business structure and external competition
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Strong understanding of internet technologies and their application to consumer public media relations
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Proven strategic communications planning experience
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 year(s) of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Business Management
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in Communications, Journalism, Business or Public Relations
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
- Successful completion of a drug and background screen
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Business Management
